76ers Dealt Concerning Update On Veteran Forward Amid Losing Skid

It has been a nightmare 2024-25 NBA season so far for the Philadelphia 76ers. Their downward spiral continues following an embarrassing 142-110 loss at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia to the Chicago Bulls Monday night.

It was the Sixers’ eighth loss in a row and as if the evening couldn’t get worse for Philadelphia, the team learned that veteran forward Guerschon Yabusele suffered a “corneal abrasion in one eye,” per Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports. Neubeck also noted that Yabusele’s other eye was swelling. The 29-year-old Yabusele appeared to suffer the injury in the third quarter when he exited the contest.

Yabusele was not having a great night on the court before he left, as he missed all his four attempts from the field and recorded just a rebound, an assist and a steal in 13 minutes of action, but his injury was still a blow to the banged-up 76ers.

Philadelphia played the Bulls without Joel Embiid, Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon and Jared McCain all because of injuries.

Yabusele was signed by the 76ers to a one-year, $2.09 million deal in August of 2024, marking his return to the NBA after getting waived by the Boston Celtics in 2019. In between, the French forward spent time playing in pro leagues in China, France and Spain. Averaging 10.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in this campaign , Yabusele will have to hope that his injury isn’t serious enough to cost him significant time.

The 76ers will rest up this Tuesday before getting back to action on Wednesday for a meeting with the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden in New York. If Yabusele (and Embiid) can’t give it a go for the Knicks game, Andre Drummond and Adem Bona will be counted upon by the Sixers to lead their frontcourt for that contest.
