Blackburn Rovers Set To Bring Back Bristol Rovers Midfielder In January

An unreal feeling" - Jake's debut delight! | rovers.co.uk

Blackburn Rovers have seen a host of academy talents hold down first-team roles over the years, with Jake Garrett involved last year.

Blackburn Rovers have had Jake Garrett on the books since 2012, bringing him in at a young age following his brief spells in the academies at Liverpool and Everton in his native Merseyside.

The midfielder was a mainstay in the U18s and U21s setups at Ewood Park before going on to make his senior breakthrough. Jon Dahl Tomasson was full of praise for Garrett and in March, he was tied down to a long-term contract.

The 21-year-old has four goals and two assists to his name in 41 games for Rovers, the majority of which game under Tomasson. Chances decreased after John Eustace’s appointment and as a result, the door was opened for him to head out to Bristol Rovers in the summer.

However, amid a struggle for regular minutes with the Gas, questions will be asked over his immediate future as January moves closer.

Can Blackburn Rovers recall Garrett?

Blackburn Rovers loanee Garrett has played 10 times for Bristol Rovers so far this season. He enjoyed a run in the team earlier in the campaign, starting three straight League One matches, but he has not been named in the starting XI since, not in the league anyway.

Much of Garrett’s game time has come in the EFL Trophy, starting all three games in the group stages.

He has played only 34 minutes of League One football since September 21st, both coming as a substitute. Matt Taylor has left Garrett out of two matchday squads as well, most recently against Reading.

Garrett was also absent from the squad against Weston-super-Mare in the FA Cup, but it could be that is down to Blackburn Rovers not permitting him to do so in case he is recalled in the winter.

And, Rovers do indeed have the option to do that, according to reports.

His recent struggle for game time with Bristol Rovers might just help Blackburn make their mind up on that front.

The January plan

Given the little game time Garrett has received, it seems increasingly likely that Blackburn Rovers will be taking up the chance to bring the talented midfielder back to Ewood Park in the winter.

From then, it will be down to the club to decide what to do with him.
