The Denver Broncos have signed linebacker Kristan Welch to their 53-man roster and have waived undrafted rookie Levelle Bailey.
According to Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have signed linebacker Kristian Welch. In a corresponding move they waived undrafted rookie linebacker Levelle Bailey to make room for Welch on their 53-man roster.
Welch played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa where he was a team captain and starter for one season. He went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed shortly after with the Baltimore Ravens. He spent three seasons with them. In 2023, he wound up signing with the Green Bay Packers after being waived by the Ravens in their final round of cuts.
Welch has only played 44 defensive snaps in his four-year career. To date, he has totaled 27 tackles but is a standout on special teams. He has logged 1,101 snaps in that regard. At 6’3” and 240 pounds, Welch has a bit more size than Bailey but doesn’t possess his athleticism. However, he put together a strong preseason and was one of the tougher cuts the Packers made according to Head Coach Matt LeFleur.
The Broncos do have one spot remaining on their practice squad. If Bailey clears waivers, Broncos Country should expect him to be back in the Mile High City after an impressive training camp and preseason. I was excited he made the team, but it appears the Broncos’ Brass was looking for an impact contributor on special teams with more experience and Welch certainly provides that.
