How Is £3.2m Midfielder Faring At Bristol City After Summer Transfer

Burnley said goodbye to a number of players following their relegation from the Premier League and Scott Twine was amongst those to have left.

Burnley were always due to make changes to their squad having dropped back down to the Championship. Some players sought moves to continue at the highest level, whilst others were simply not part of Scott Parker’s plans.

Wilson Odobert sealed an exciting switch to Tottenham Hotspur, Sander Berge also remained in the top flight with Fulham, and newly promoted Ipswich Town poached Dara O’Shea and Arijanet Muric.

A handful of the Clarets’ squad agreed similar switches to top flight clubs across the world, with many finding new sides either in the second tier or at a lower level.

It was unclear what the plan would be for Twine given he had relatively little chance to impress at Turf Moor. Loan spells with Hull City and Bristol City made up part of his stay prior to the Robins striking a £3.2m deal for his services on a permanent basis this summer.

But just how has the 25-year-old fared since his Burnley exit? We take a look here…

A slow start

Since making Ashton Gate his full-time home, Twine has featured six times in the Championship – a spell which has seen Liam Manning’s men win two, lose two and draw two.

After appearing on the Burnley bench for the season opener, the former MK Dons ace made his second Bristol City debut in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Millwall during which he came on to score the winner.

A 1-1 draw with Coventry City ensued, before back-to-back 3-0 losses at the hands of Derby County and Blackburn Rovers. The Robins then beat Oxford United 2-1 to close a four-game spell without Twine making a goal contribution.

Last time out, however, the ex-Claret registered his first assist of the campaign as Manning’s side came from behind to draw 1-1 with Swansea City.

Plenty of time

Bristol City have obviously endured an inconsistent start to their campaign, but there is still plenty of time for the Robins to pick up their form and Twine could certainly have a big hand in that.

After all, the season is still in its early stages and we have seen beforehand how influential the attacking midfielder can be when given a good run in the side. It is his MK Dons form that he will be desperate to recreate in the not so far future.

The Robins boast a number of young and exciting squad members and their summer rebuild could yet take more time to gel together.

Manning’s side host Sheffield Wednesday this evening where a win could see them rise to 9th in the Championship table. Twine is expected to start and will certainly be hoping to get in on the action to follow up from his assist last time out.
