Sacramento Kings Enter The 2024 NBA Draft With A Few Unknowns

Sacramento Kings reportedly interested in trade for star forward, came 'close' to 2 major trades

The Sacramento Kings enter the 2024 NBA Draft with a few unknowns. Mainly, will they keep the pick this year?

The 2024 Draft class is widely regarded as one of the weakest in the last 25 years. Top prospects such as Victor Wembanyama, Paolo Banchero and Zion Williamson are nowhere to be found this summer. Instead, the 2024 class features a plethora of either upside players that are boom-or-bust, or, veteran contributors that have much, much lower ceilings.

But as in every draft class, there are a few diamonds in the rough that will eventually pan out and be worthwhile contributors for years to come. Should the Kings keep their picks this year (who knows), that should be the name of the game for general manager Monte McNair.

DRAFT WEEK IS HERE 🍿

The 2024 #NBADraft presented by State Farm will take place over TWO NIGHTS!

First Round: Wednesday, 6/26 at 8:00pm/et on ABC & ESPN
Second Round: Thursday, 6/27 at 4:00pm/et on ESPN pic.twitter.com/xfiIWsPD5l

So without further ado, here the two prospects Sacramento should target with their two selections this week.

Pick #13 (First Round): Ron Holland | SF | 18.9 | G League Ignite

With Malik Monk now locked in for four more years, it would behoove the Sacramento Kings to take a larger wing that can defend multiple positions on the court. But, it’d also be wise to take a swing on an upside prospect that could be a starter down the road.

That’s where Ron Holland comes in.

Holland, 18, was the No.2 ranked prospect in the 2023 high school class. The Texas native opted against the college route for the G-League Ignite, a decision that would get him more pro-ready for the 2024 Draft.

His lone year in Las Vegas didn’t go to plan. The Ignite team struggled against the grown men of the g-league, and that included Holland. However, the young wing showed enough flashes to suggest the best is yet to come.

Holland is smooth in transition and in the half court, able to create his own shot at will. He has a variety of finishing maneuvers, both with his dominant right and off-hand. While he shot a horrific 24% from three, Holland isn’t afraid of the shot, suggesting that with time he can develop it.

And then his defense. Tenacious, ferocious, locked in. His wingspan (almost 6’11) and size allows him to guard 1-4 on the court. Very R.J. Barrett-esque in that way.

Holland could be a wonderful complement to Keegan Murray down the line, and an intriguing prospect for a Kings squad balancing contention and growth over the next five years.

If Ron Holland is available at 13th, Sacramento should run to the podium to snag him.

Pick #45 (Second Round): P.J. Hall | Big Man | 22.3 | Clemson

Picking in the second round can be a crapshoot; There’s no sugar-coating it. That’s why finding an impact player, regardless of what the ceiling is, should be the name of the game for Sac if they keep the pick.

Clemson’s P.J. Hall could be just that.

Hall, 22, can do a little bit of everything on the court: Shoot, pass, cut, defend. While he isn’t the biggest guy or the strongest, his basketball I.Q. is obvious when you watch the film.

The South Carolina native was the Tigers’ leading scorer last season (18.3 PPG), using a variety of crafty moves to get the bucket. He’s able to stretch the floor as shooter, taking close to five threes a contest in college. Hall is also an exceptional passer and cutter, seeing defensive breakdowns happen almost instantaneously.

The 22-year-old likely won’t see much playing time in the NBA out of the gate, but could be an intriguing player in a year or two if he stands out for the Stockton Kings.

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor compared him to a “Post-Prime Blake Griffin”.

While you’d prefer a prime BG, KOC’s comp makes a bit of sense, and is a player that fits coach Mike Brown’s playstyle for the Kings.

When is the next NBA off-season date of interest?

The NBA Draft is now a two-night event.

Wednesday, June 26th, will act as the first night of the 2024 NBA Draft, where the Sacramento Kings will make their first-round selection (13th). The second round of the draft will be held on Thursday, June 27th, where the Kings will use its 45th overall pick.

Sacramento hasn’t had a first-round pick since 2022, when it selected Iowa product Keegan Murray with the fourth overall pick.
